Good Day is a bustling neighborhood café tucked into Orakei’s quiet Coates Avenue, serving up breakfast favorites and strong coffee to a steady stream of locals each morning. Its welcoming atmosphere fits well with the casual ebb of early commuters, dog walkers, and families easing into their weekend routines. You’ll find both indoor seating and a few spots outside, making it a flexible stop whether you want to linger over a flat white or grab a quick bite before heading out.

The menu at Good Day leans into approachable, hearty options with a bit of a creative twist—things like smashed peas and avocado on gluten-free toast balance out the more classic sides such as baked beans on sourdough or free-range eggs. The occasional specials, like the New York Salmon Bagel or seasonal Summer Greens, add some fresh variety to the lineup. Coffee gets a lot of attention here, served expertly to suit each order, making it a reliable choice for anyone serious about their morning brew.

Service is consistently friendly without feeling over-the-top formal. Regulars seem to be known by name and preferred orders, creating a quietly familiar vibe that’s especially welcoming to newcomers and neighbors alike. The café opens early and caters well to foot traffic, which means it can get lively in the breakfast rush but never crowded enough to feel cramped. Street parking nearby and a convenient location mean it’s easy to slip in for a straightforward, satisfying start to the day.

This spot feels particularly well-suited for people who appreciate a laid-back but attentive café environment—perfect for solo coffee breaks, casual meet-ups, or a reliable weekend breakfast. Those who enjoy simple food with thoughtful flavors and steady, well-crafted coffee will find Good Day an easy neighborhood pick.

Open early - friendly smiles and great service. Try the gingerbread- it's simply out of this world! Breakfast bagel with fried eggs - hits the spot! And coffee served as you like it! Early mornings see lots of walk ins and foot traffic. Streetside parking- seating indoor and out. - well worth the visit if you're in the area. Two thumbs up!

Great cafe with yummy food. The service here is outstanding, we have been given slightly unripe avocado and had it changed with no issues. The coffee here is amazing as well. Favorite local place

The best cafe! 10/10 coffee, and a great food selection too. The cheese scones are the best I’ve ever had - so light and fluffy. And the ginger slice is delicious. Such a perfect neighbourhood cafe.

I’ve realized how much I enjoy these casual neighborhood spots. The staff exude an easygoing kindness, and as a newcomer, I feel like a welcomed stranger. Most of the regulars don’t even need to place their orders— the servers already know their favorite drinks and dishes. I hear this is what they call Kiwi style. The food is simple yet far from boring, with layers of rich flavors. Today, I tried their new summer special—refreshing and delightfully light.

This is hands down the best breakfast spot in all of New Zealand. Everything—from the combinations to the layers to the flavors—is absolutely perfect. Just look at our empty plates and you’ll know how delicious it was!

A small cafe in the beautiful suburb of Ōrākei. We only went there because the cafe is very highly rated and rightly so. The staff is super friendly and considerate. We went around lunch time on Sunday when the cafe was packed but we managed to secure seats outside in the cold and our drinks order was taken almost immediately. Outdoor seaters are provided with blankets to keep warm. Looking at the jaunty crowd and aromatic smelling food, we were ready to battle the cold to try it out. Little did we know, that the staff would request us to move into a table inside when it became available, even when we didn’t request for a table inside. So thoughtful! We ordered 2 coffees( flat white & Cap) both were very well made and we also got the green smoothie, which was delicious. For mains, we got the doorstop toastie was so scrumptious, the bread was crispy but not oily and jalapenos were spread evenly inside. So every bite had the perfect balance of crispy bread, melted cheese and jalapeños. My partner got the Chorizo scramble and rated it a 5/5. He has been reminiscing them from his trip in the States and so finally, he got lucky to enjoy this delectable dish at this cafe. We also ordered the soup of the day, pumpkin soup. I wouldn’t recommend this soup as we felt it was quite a heavy dish to share with two others main ones The consistency was very thick and is immensely filling. However, the soup also comes with 2 slices of well toasted sourdough bread and butter, which we were incapable of neglecting. So we had one each with an overload of butter on top and happily stuffed ourselves. The table next to us ordered the avocado toast and the French toast of which a morsel wasn’t left. Therefore, for next time we are sure to get them two.
